What Lesterville is like
Lesterville is a small Reynolds County town in the Missouri Ozarks, best known as the jumping-off point for float trips on the Black River. It is quiet year-round and busy on summer weekends. The town itself is small — a gas station, a Dollar General, and a handful of restaurants — so most visitors come for the water, the hills, and the state parks a short drive north.
On the water vs. off the water
Most cabin rentals in Lesterville advertise river frontage. Those spots are convenient in July, but they are also the loudest, the most crowded, and the first to flood after a hard rain. Legacy Hideout sits 2 miles from the Black River on a wooded hillside. You drive a couple of minutes to your put-in, and you come back to somewhere quiet.
When to book
- May through September is float season. Weekends book out first — reserve 4 to 8 weeks ahead for a summer Saturday.
- Spring and fall are the best value. Cooler water, fewer people, and the Ozark hills at their best in mid-October.
- Winter is quiet and cheap — good for fishing trips and family weekends.
